Message from the Music Director

Angel de Armendi, Music Director

‘Tis the Season to be Vulnerable

Yesterday I learnt about fake guilt.  It is basically when people feel guilty for anything on a daily basis, for not being good enough, for doing things a certain way, and falling short on their performance expectations.  It seems nowadays people are open to sharing more, allowing themselves to be vulnerable.  Most of the spaces I facilitate at UUCT are spaces to learn how to be with our authentic selves while in company of others.  We continue to revisit Non-Violent Communication practices first Thursdays during Satsang.  How to learn to be responsible for our own thoughts and feelings at every moment: recognize our personal needs based on the judgments we make and the feelings we experience.  It is a great practice that shows how different is our individual perceptions of reality, while deepening our empathy and discernment.  Second Thursdays we are focusing on the ancient philosophical and religious Chinese text of the Tao Te Ching by Laozi.  This month we will be exploring the third poem, along with sharing individual perspectives and practical tips on how to apply it to everyday life.  Last month we had incredible fun during Karaoke, now happening third Thursdays, along with food to share and conversation.  According to neuroscience Karaoke helps us get into flow state: an awareness type channel in which the individual transcends duality and is in total surrender to what is.  It is referred to an optimal state of consciousness characterized by an abundance of energy and enjoyment of the moment.  Here is an overview of spaces to be curious about who you want to embody being, to learn new things in a compassionate loving space.

Djembe Workshops: 2nd & 3rd Sundays @1:00 pm – Helps with concentration, flow state, practice of humility, learning new skills, deep listening, coordination.

Satsang: 1st three Thursdays of the month @6:00 pm – Helps with incorporating meditation into your life, training where you want your mind to focus, learning how to shift perspectives and get to that other thought in a creative way to change entirely the perception of reality. Helps with practicing being you around others; empathy, sharing, using your authentic voice in a safe space.

Singing Meditation: 1st three Thursdays of the month @9:30 am – helps with concentration, meditation, becoming aware of your thoughts and learning how to allow them through without engaging (mindfulness), utilizing your voice, breath awareness, heart health.

Kirtan: 2nd Saturdays @5:30, specialized form of chanting and improvisation practice.

Cacao ceremony: 3rd Saturdays @1:30 RSVP required – helps with body perception, awareness, heart center expansion, creativity.

Wim Hof Breathing: every Monday @7:30 am, through zoom – benefits are too many to list!
