Board Notes: April 2023

Not your typical board meeting! President Kay Stuart-Tilley switched from laptop to phone after Thursday’s severe weather took out her electricity. VP for Finance Dan D’Arcangelis joined us from Japan! (Fortunately—reaching a quorum required his presence.) Thank you both for your extra effort.

The Board voted that UUCT sponsor the upcoming annual public worship of the Diverse Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries. Sponsorships support pastoral care, community organizing, and antiracism work. The free and inclusive worship event—a “festival of black and brown joy” with original music, prayer, and poetry—takes place on Thursday May 11th at 8 pm Eastern. Go to the DRUUMM public worship webpage to learn more and to register to attend. All are welcome.

The congregational response to the recent canvass was amazing! Thanks to all of you who pledged. The Board approved three Finance Committee submissions for fiscal year 2023-2024: the Final Budget, the Share the Plate participants, and two fundraisers-in-development. You can learn more at the congregational discussion following the Sunday service on May 14. Members vote on these (and more) at the congregational annual meeting on the following Sunday, May 21.

Robin Gray updated the Board on a proposed endowment policy which Robin introduced for discussion at the February 19 congregational meeting. The related congregational vote will be in the fall or winter so that you have more opportunities for input. Watch for and join a conversation this summer and/or fall to learn more and to share your thoughts.

Approval of the consent agenda included affirming two votes made by email between the March and April board meetings. One vote appoints Linda Wright as a delegate to the UUA General Assembly in June. The second email vote opened the ministerial search to include not only developmental ministers but also contract ministers with a developmental focus (if needed; contract searches can stay open longer than developmental searches). The consent agenda also included the March board minutes and acknowledged the monthly Minister’s report and Nominating Committee report. The March financial reports (inadvertently omitted from the consent agenda) have been approved by email vote since the meeting.

The Board will appoint the third and final congregational delegate to GA soon; contact board@uutallahassee.org if you are interested. More information in the March Meridian “Board Notes.”

Any congregant is welcome to address the Board at its online meeting or attend as an observer. The next meeting is on May 25 at 6:30. To receive the Zoom link and agenda (or to be added to the agenda) contact President Kay Stuart-Tilley at: president@uutallahasse.org
