The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee selected for Centering BIPOC Voices
By Robin Gray
After considering four hefty books, the regular attendees of Centering BIPOC Voices chose “The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee: Native America from 1890 to the present” by David Treuer as the book to discuss in May and June. At the May 8th gathering we’ll discuss the first three parts of the book, and finish the next four parts at our June meeting.
Published in 2019, the book was a finalist for the National Book Award. Patrick Limerick, author of The Legacy of Conquest writes: “In clear and vivid prose, David Treuer positions unforgettable portraits of contemporary Indian people within a compelling narrative of the experiences of indigenous peoples in the big sweep of time. His book offers a powerful challenge to the persistent and pernicious idea of the ‘vanishing Indian,’ replacing it with a far more accurate story of Indian people’s repossession and restoration of sovereignty and dignity.”
If you’d like to join the discussion, contact Robin Gray (email@example.com) for more information and to receive the Zoom link for the May 8th (3:30 PM) and June 12th (3:30 PM) discussions.
Special Newcomer/Guest Break-out Room Every Sunday After the Service
Newcomers and other guests, whether you have attended one virtual service or many, please join us in a special break-out room any Sunday during the social time following the service. You are welcome to participate in this break-out room more than once. It will be an opportunity for you to get to know us and us to get to know you. You can also share about what brought you to UUCT and ask questions you might have. And if you would rather just participate in one of the general break-out rooms during social time, you are always invited to do so. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the break-out room or about the church, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
– The Welcome Team (Trudy Deyle, Sally Andersen and others)
You are welcome to join us every Sunday from 3 PM to 4 PM on Zoom. We are a community of meditators who come together for a chance to center ourselves with calm and focus. Each week a member of the group leads the meditation, drawing from a variety of Buddhist thought. Our usual practice starts with a guided meditation or a passage reading while seated, followed by a walking meditation, then finishing with a silent meditation. At the conclusion, we share our experiences with each other.
Whether you are new or seasoned to the practice of meditation, all are welcome. Please email Ardenkelly@yahoo.com for the Zoom link invitation to be sent to you every Saturday.
Arden Kelly is a Director & Teaching Artist Acting/Voice & Speech/Voiceover/Singer pursuing a Masters in London.

Join us weekly via Zoom for a synergistic interfaith spiritual practice of many forms of singing, chanting, and group observation of silence.
The goal is to help each participant reach a place within themselves where they can connect with the Divine, their Inner Core, the Spirit of Life; wherever they find Peace. Led by Angel de Armendi, Music Director.
Singing Meditation will is on an alternating Tuesday/Thursday rotation schedule. Our next gathering will be Thursday, May 13th from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM.

Food For Thought
Our diets not only affect our health, but also greatly impact our planet. In honor of Earth Day the UU Ministry for the Earth set up an ecochallenge for all of us UU’s to get involved in. Some of us have already signed up and are learning about how we can be part of drawing down the carbon in our atmosphere.
Researchers and scientists know of 80 different ways in which we can alleviate global warming, and there are 20 more technologies that are currently being developed. Fortunately, as individuals we can take action. We can educate ourselves, support our government in our climate change endeavor, and make changes to our own personal lifestyles.
Please join us on Thursday, May 13th at 7 PM, via zoom, to discuss what we have learned from the UUMFE’s Ecochallenge. And, if you have not signed up, don’t worry, because we can assist you in signing up. It’s not too late as the challenge will continue through June 30th. For more information, go to: drawdown.ecochallenge.org. Also, remember to contact Linda Oaksford at email@example.com for the zoom link, if you are not already on the Food For Thought email list

If you cannot make it this month, we meet every month on the third Wednesday via Zoom. For a link to the meeting contact Bonnie Fesmire and she will add you to the mailing list.
