Community Care Opportunities
We need you to help keep our community safe. Research suggests up to 40% of homeless individuals could contract COVID-19 with 10% of those individuals needing hospitalization*. As we work to keep the Capital City safe, we need to provide a safe “HOME” for these vulnerable neighbors. To provide a safe “HOME” we have moved clients from a congregate shelter setting to hotels and studio apartments. During this new normal, safety precautions necessary to keep clients, staff and the community safe come with additional costs.
Please help us provide a safe shelter-in-place option for our most vulnerable clients by supporting The Kearney Center’s COVID-19 HOME Construction Fund. The estimated operating cost of COVID-19 is an additional $200,000 per month over our normal operating budget. We are working hard to apply for all Federal and private funding available, but we need you to help to fill in the gaps. Will you help by providing a HOME for our most vulnerable? Any amount is appreciated. We are all in this together. As never before, when we help one…we help everyone. For more information and to make a donation, click here.
Another huge endeavour is supplying clients with basic necessities for their new homes.
Kearney Staff are putting together “Welcome Home” Baskets for clients. For a list of items needed, click here. They are hoping to put together a total of 200 baskets.
As we observe Hunger Action Month with the pandemic still impacting the children, families, seniors, and veterans we serve, your support is needed now more than ever.
It is no secret that this year has been incredibly hard on each of us. Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, our world is still upside down, and our daily lives are slowly adapting to a new normal. One thing we hope has not changed this year is your generous spirit and kind heart.
We need to maintain our food supply and continue distributing food to those in need and you can help!
You can make a difference by:
- Donating Money — Please consider making an unrestricted financial gift. In the coming weeks and months, our resources will be stretched and strained in ways we cannot even imagine today. We will use your contribution to support the areas of greatest need as we respond to this evolving crisis.
- Volunteering — If you are healthy and willing, we need the generous gift of your time and energy. Our online volunteer calendar is updated frequently, so check back often. Volunteers provide the spirit and determination that will power us through these unprecedented times.
- Sharing — Enlist your network. While you practice social distancing, you can help us immensely by socially connecting others to the work we are doing at Second Harvest. Each time you share this message, engage with someone, share our social media posts, or promote our Facebook fundraiser — you benefit your Second Harvest. The more we come together, the stronger we will all be on the other side of this.
Whether through a financial gift, volunteering, or sharing our message—your Big Bend community needs you right now. You can send food and a message of hope to struggling families, seniors, children, and anyone who is fighting to survive right now.
