Tend the Spark, Carry the Flame
Keeping Our Facilities in Shape
Cut the wood, feed the fire, and clear the ashes… Management tasks are often the
fuel that supports events or programs and contributes to their success. The behind
the scenes activities that happen on days that aren’t Sundays give a small group of
UUCT members more opportunities to get to know each other better.
For example, while opportunities last year were limited in the number of people who showed up for workdays, the regulars participated on enough workdays to help
Les (UUCT’s Sexton) safely do the tasks that require more than one person to perform. Plus, there is so much work to do at the church that Les doesn’t always get the opportunity to complete projects without extra help on workdays or from some volunteers who show up during the week. I love Les’ work ethic and am more than happy to help him at the church.
Prior to the pandemic restrictions, those who showed up for a workday were treated to lunch, shared great hugs, and we had lively conversations during our fellowship time while sharing a meal. We also worked, sweated and supported each other in whatever task was at hand. Unlike some groups who have meetings in rooms without noise, workday planners scheduled meetings at local pool halls, which offered a different kind of fellowship after the business of the day was over. I look forward to reconnecting with my UUCT friends again next year. Stay safe!
