CANCELLED- January Women’s Lunch Bunch
Due to the Inauguration on Wednesday January 20th, we (Linda W. and I) thought it would be best to cancel this month’s UU Women’s Lunch Bunch on January 20th. We will reconvene February 17.
SCHEDULE CHANGE – Christian Spirituality @ UUCT
Having spoken with Christian Spirituality participants who also wish to participate in Emergent Strategies, we have agreed to switch the Wednesday evenings for CS from 1st and 3rd weeks of the month to 2nd and 4th weeks beginning January 27th.
Join us for a twice-monthly, Zoom Bible study. While each week’s Bible passage will be the focus of the meeting, the real purpose of Christian Spirituality is to create a friendly association, to give and receive support, and to find our lives expressed in the Bible.
Our meetings will be the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For zoom information contact Kay Stuart-Tilley at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our next meeting is January 27 (John 1:1-18)
Unitarian Universalists Denounce Complicity with Extremists, Call for Courageous Action by National Leaders
Last Friday, the UUA issued a call for the removal and impeachment of President Trump and accountability for members of Congress who participated in and incited these attacks on our democracy. You can read that call here.
Want to learn more about how to get involved?
Join Frontline, a coalition of movement organizations, for #ForwardTogether, an unprecedented mass organizing virtual event on January 16th from 3-6pm EST. The event gathers organizers and the everyday people who made recent electoral wins possible to discuss the issues that the new Administration and Senate Leadership need to center in their policy agendas. Register here.
The 2021-2022 Canvass is Coming!
UUCT’s 2021-2022 canvass / pledge drive officially begins on Sunday, February 7th and will run until March 28th. This year’s canvass theme is “Tend the Spark, Carry the Flame”.
As we approach almost a full year of living with the impact of the Covid-19 virus, each of us has had to find and tend our spark. During this pledge drive, we will be asking you to consider how UUCT and our Unitarian Universalist faith has tended your spark and has helped you carry your flame.
Stay tuned for more details!
COVID: Protecting Ourselves and Each Other
The anticipated January surge of Covid- positive friends, family, and neighbors is here. The numbers in Florida (about 11,000 new cases a day) are rising, the numbers in Tallahassee are rising. This week there was a Tallahassee Roundtable on the virus. A summary of the Zoom Roundtable and the Zoom itself is posted on the UUCT Sharing Facebook (FB) Page.
In Leon County there are still 11,000 people on the list to be vaccinated. These are the people who signed up on- line the first two to three weeks. As of this writing, the Leon County Health Department is not taking more appointments until these 11,000 are taken care of. And these are being called as vaccine becomes available. When they open up to take appointments again there will be a new appointment request system. Watch the news, check with Leon County web page and check with UUCT FB Page or UUCT Meridian. If you need transportation to a vaccination, please call Carolyn Pardue (850) 386-1494; we will help you secure transportation.
You can CANCEL your appointment with the health department, if you get your vaccination at your doctors. Email: LeonCHD.Feedemail@example.com. Include
your name, date and dates of birth. In the subject line type: “CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT”.
Second doses: If you have not heard about a date for your second dose, you can contact the health department LeonCHD.Feedfirstname.lastname@example.org . Include your name, date of first injection, and the product used (Moderna or Pfizer). In the subject line type: “SECOND DOSE”.
THANKS TO THOSE WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED THESE TIPS:
- call your local doctor (all of them) and ask to be put on any list they have for
vaccinations; as they get meds in they are calling – but be persistent.
- watch carefully (news and UUCT FB) for announcements of when the LCHD will
again open to take appointments.
- if you have underlying health conditions , call your specialists – get on their lists.
- if you need transportation to a vaccination, please call Carolyn Pardue (850-386-1494); we will help you secure transportation.
- when you go to your appointment take a book and do not be in a hurry. Can take up to two hours. It is an efficiently run process but it takes time to process 1,000 people a day.
- don’t get impatient when 3-4 different volunteers/staff ask to see your paperwork; they are each looking for something different.
VOLUNTEER TO HELP:
The LCHD is using volunteers for a number of positions when they are open for vaccinations, including some people who do phone calls (from their homes) making appointments. If you have time please visit www.LeonCountyFL.gov/VaccinationVolunteer to sign up.
If you want to speak to a real person, please contact Royle King

Please continue to be safe, you are an essential person in our community.
Saturday, January 16 is the first Manna on Meridian of the new year. Volunteers have been working all week to get groceries in and bag them. Our UUCT volunteers will work about 1/2 a day Friday bagging fruit and produce. Manna is fortunate enough that this month the Leon County Fruit and Nut Exchange will again donate citrus. WE will bag that also. If you have wanted to try volunteering, you can meet us at Manna at 11:30 on Friday for as long as you like. Wear a mask – you may want to double mask; with the cold we will be packing the produce inside this month.
Saturday we expect to provide staples, bread, produce and fruit to over 200 families. If you or someone you know has the need to put something in the pantry, please come to Manna. Turn onto Pine Street off of Meridian (between Faith Presbyterian and St Stephens Lutheran and you will see the entrance). No need to get out of car. If you want to pick them up for someone else, that is fine. No names or personal information will be asked.
This week, the UUCT Sharing page on FB will again begin having BOGOS from those stores that post them in the area. Gives everyone an idea of some of the things Manna needs. There will also be a bit of a change in that I will also post some of the “extras” that people have truly enjoyed being able to use.
I am even more concerned about people this month. With heating bills being tighter, it will be important for all local food banks and pantries and community gardens to be mobilized. There are a lot of people who will continue to need assistance.
Thank you for all you continue to do.
As a self-identifying person of color, you are welcomed to attend our monthly gathering. We are an informal group coming together to share and support our community.

Special Newcomer Gathering Every First Sunday of the Month at Noon
Newcomers, whether you have attended one virtual service or many, please join us for a gathering any first Sunday of the month immediately following the Sunday service. This will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to ask questions you might have about UUCT. The gathering will last an hour maximum, but please come even if you cannot stay for the whole time.
Important: These gatherings will have a separate Zoom link than the Sunday service link. The link will be in The Meridian that comes out before each first Sunday. If you have any questions, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
