Before ordination, Robin worked in social services, specializing in elder care. She was also the Director of Christian Education at a UCC church in Quincy, Massachusetts. Working with youth and elders taught her to respect the differing perspectives of persons at the opposite ends of the age spectrum, and led her to a special concern for their needs in the life of a congregation. Robin served on the Racial Justice curriculum team for the Unitarian Universalist Association, and is co-author of Race to Justice: A Junior High Curriculum. The course helps youth to identify ways racism is active in their lives and communities, encouraging them to complete a video assessing the racial and cultural diversity of their own congregation. After completing studies at Yale Divinity School and Andover Newton Theological School, Robin was called to serve The Unitarian Universalist Society of Gardner, Massachusetts in 1987. During her ministry, she was able to guide the congregation through changes that brought new leaders into the center of congregational life. After leaving in 1994, Robin began twelve years of Ministry with the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Milford, Massachusetts. With her support, the congregation established the Milford Community Supper, a weekly hot meal for all in need of it. In addition to her parish duties, Robin enjoyed working in concert with an interfaith group of clergy and lay leaders. She also developed a weekly column for the newspaper with contributors from five faith traditions. Robin was also honored to become a chaplain serving the Milford Police Department. Robin met the Settled Minister Search Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tallahassee while they were conducting its nationwide search in 2007. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Tallahassee exhibited an outstanding capacity for caring in action. They warmly welcome all people, regardless of creed, belief or unbelief, age, race, affectional or sexual orientation. As a community, they are adept at caring for one another's needs. They are active in calling forth justice for the people and places of the Big Bend. Robin is proud to be called to the settled ministry here; she and UUCT began their journey together, as congregation and minister, on August 1, 2007. |
